Atlanta Medical Center Birth Story
I love it when the mom writes the blog post for me 🙂 It’s her birth, so I feel it should be her story to tell, from her own perspective.
This birth story took place at Atlanta Medical Center with Intown Midwifery
We had a change of plans with our natural waterbirth. We came in on Saturday for decreased movement and irregular heartbeat.
Based on the decreased movement and the unusual heart arrhythmia, the decision, with our consent, was to induce me for a natural vaginal birth.
As the birthing process continued, they weren’t seeing a change in the arrhythmia and became concerned that Tenna could possibly flatline with continued labor, so a family centered c-section was recommended. We did the BRAIND method discussed in our Hypnobabies class and decided the c-section was the best decision moving forward.
We played the change of plans hypnobabies track, and by the end of it, my mind was clear of worry about not having the birth I originally planned.
I did about 8 hours of the birthing process before the c-section, and everyone talked about how well I was handling the pressure waves during the birthing process and how calm I was before, during and after the c-section.
The pediatricians did notice the abnormal heartbeat after Tenna’s birth, ruled out arrhythmia, but said there might be evidence of a long QT. They did a series of test over the next 4 days (yes, 4 days!) in the hospital. The last EKG would determine if we needed to see a pediatric cardiologist immediately. It was determined that we needed to see one in a month, which we saw as a good sign!
By the way, all the medical staff said that my situation was really rare. I guess Tenna wanted to make a special appearance into the world.
