Why Videography Matters
You only have to watch one video to understand the answer to the question, “Why do I need videography when I already have photos?” It’s the sounds, the voices, the newborn movements – things that just can’t be captured in a still image.
My Approach to Birth Videography
My approach is a bit unique. I film like a seasoned parent. My oldest is twenty-five now, and my “baby” is sixteen. Gone are the days of painted toenails and tiny rubber bands for braces. Gone are the sleepless nights and hearing “Mama” a zillion times a day. And the truth is… I miss it.
Older women once told me that babies don’t keep and to savor every moment. I did. But nothing compares to watching old family videos. I wish I had taken more. I didn’t take enough. Back then, I’d put the camera away because the house was messy or the toys were scattered. Now those messy backgrounds are a distant memory, and the videos I did take are a bittersweet treasure.
From an Older Mom to a Younger One
You will always remember the things your kids did — but you won’t remember their voices. My heart melts every time I hear those little voices again. From an older mom to a younger one: take the videos. Capture it all, and back them up in several places. Someday, those sounds will be priceless.
